After writing a post on Jeff Skoll's vision on Humanity 2.0 a week ago, this week I discovered the Alliance for a New Humanity. The Alliance, a global initiative lead by Deepak Chopra, has the intention to:

To create an alliance of people based on the awareness of humanity’s interconnectedness. We believe that if enough people shift their awareness toward social justice, human rights, and environmental sustainability, then injustice, oppression, and the destruction of the ecosystem can be stopped.

Such a shift is already occurring - now it needs critical mass, which in turn needs organization. The Alliance aims to connect individuals, caring communities and groups at a global level.
Unity isn't fought for and won. It is realized one person at a time.

According to Deepak Chopra:

As I travel around the world it has become clear to me that human beings around our planet are longing for three things:  (a) tools for personal transformation, (b) a way to serve without selfish motivations and (c) a deep desire to connect with each other and build deep relationships. The same modern capacities that have the potential to lead to utter destruction give us now the means, methods, and technology to provide the tools for personal transformation, to offer the opportunities for service and to connect people at a deeper value level at a broad scale, and this is the engine that we are setting in motion with the Alliance.

Will this initiative indeed make a difference? Be the change they envision? I really don't know. But I do know I'm eager to find out, and contribute wherever I can!

Ellen, you write that you 'joined' the alliance. Can you tell me what this means and how people can join? I have not been able to find info on joining on their site.

Or is this the same as what happens when you subscribe to their newsletter?

As for the Alliance: you can become a member, which also implies receiving the newsletter. This is of course only a first step in how you can contribute to the Alliance.
You can also join one of the social communities on The Alliance Network (http://www.thealliancenetwork.org/).
