Featured Charity: HelloCreativity

Henry_map_060923_detail Joy is but the sign
that creative emotion
is fulfilling its purpose.

- Charles Du Bos

In the Netherlands, as probably in many other countries, the primary focus in elementary and high schools is on intellectual achievements. Stimulating creativity and artistic talents receives less and less attention, where creative activities are important for every human being to express themselves. Express themselves, and learn to sit down and listen to their inner voice.

With the beautiful initiative HelloCreativity, Lori Heinsman has set up as a nonprofit organization with the mission of:
"Helping help children grow self-confidence and personal courage through artistic expression and connection to mentors worldwide. By encouraging children to claim their creative voice, we strengthen their opportunity for a more understanding, hopeful, successful, and peaceful future."

Children submit artwork, writing, poetry to the HelloCreativity website, where volunteers to provide feedback on the item. Volunteers include artists, photographers, writers, musicians, teachers, parents, professionals, and seniors – any adult who has the passion to make a positive difference. Through the discussing of the artwork children are offered encouragement to develop new ways of expressing themselves and tips on techniques to try.

Ever wondered what YOU can do, how you can make a difference with only (very) limited free time? That's where HelloCreativity's thinking enters the picture:  By showing what is possible if you just pooled 5 minutes of your free time into an online mentoring community!

With these 5 minutes, you can provide encouragement for children around the world. By encouraging children to claim their creative voice, we strengthen their opportunity for a more understanding, hopeful, successful, and peaceful future for all of us. Check out How does it work? to see how you can help.

Thank you for telling me about this. I love mentoring. And I think encouraging kids to be creative is one of the best things we can do to make this poor old world a bit more sane.

I still haven't figured out exactly how I sign up, but I've sent an e-mail asking.
