World Peace: Making the Impossible Possible?
I like to believe that people in the long run are going to do more to promote peace than our governments. Indeed, I think that people want peace so much that one of these days governments had better get out of the way and let them have it.
Dwight D. Eisenhower
Today, I was pleasantly surprised in receiving a free (complimentary) copy of Bill Strickland's 'Make the Impossible Possible: A One Man's Crusade To inspire Others To Dream Bigger And Achieve The Extraordinary'. I will tell you more about the book as soon as I've found the time to read it, but in the meantime, the book was a welcome reminder. A reminder to never stop dreaming, even though those dreams may seem unrealistic or even completely impossible..
Reminding me that this week, the Peace Train has been growing longer and longer. Check out the side bar for the growing list of participants! And this is only one of the many initiatives and social networks focusing on Positive Change; networks like the Alliance for a New Humanity, Zaadz or Global MindShift. It is wonderful to see that more and more people are taking a stand for Peace, and to see the possibilities provided to us by the internet to join these efforts!
This week I also came across a beautiful post on Binding Ink by Nom de Plum The Poetress, that contained this beautiful picture, and the following words I wanted to share with you:
Environmentally speaking, the butterfly effect is a phrase that “refers to the idea that a butterfly's wings might create tiny changes in the atmosphere that ultimately cause a tornado to appear (or for that matter, prevent a tornado from appearing). The flapping wing represents a small change in the initial condition of the system, which causes a chain of events leading to large-scale phenomena.” [..] it is time that we take back the wheel and steer our own wings, promoting positive change throughout the World toward Peace. For even the smallest of efforts can make a difference collectively. Be this by beginning such in our own home, community, political stance, etc.
I totally agree. In our own hearts, our own home, with our own children, is where it all starts. Where each of us can make an effort, can contribute to Peace. As quoted:
Peace is not something you wish for; It's something you make, Something you do, Something you are. And something you give away. - Robert Fulghum
One day we must come to see that peace is not merely a distant goal we seek, but that it is a means by which we arrive at that goal. We must pursue peaceful ends through peaceful means. - Martin Luther King
Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the ability to cope with it.
A wonderful and peaceful weekend to all of you!

Thank You for mentioning my post from Binding Ink. Ellen, you have such a genuine way with words that you make the Impossible really seem Possible. The quotes you have included from Robert Fulghum and Martin Luther King are equally as emotionally moving as your mission for Peace. Thanks for helping to keep the Peace Train a chugging and I’ll send you a link when my post is aboard! Remember Ellen, it is not by chance that in the wide world of the blogosphere our paths have crossed, for it is fate - guiding all of us to unite toward a kinder Peaceful Humanity.

Hi Ellen,
Wonderful post :)
Peace can be achieved, look at the conflict in N.Ireland that continued for the best part of four decades, and now the peace process is working well.
It wasn't achieved by the violence but by common dialogue.
Have a peaceful and happy weekend,
Colin

Hi Colin,
thanks! Yes, I believe it can be achieved. A mindshift is needed (see also my other post, Give Peace a Chance), but it is possible!
I'm glad you joined the Peace Train too,
a peaceful weekend to you,
Ellen
